This year we came out with a mild winter; with the Mississippi River thawing and migrating birds heading north early. It would not be a normal start to the spring in Northeast Iowa without a last minute snow storm. This time we ended up with some ice and some light snow. Sleet and freezing rain can be treacherous for travelers, but provides beautiful ice coated landscapes. The ice covered trees are always my favorite to photograph. The sun reflects off the ice, making the trees shimmer with the warm light.
